Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal known as"the West Island. The West Island has a lot of different communities. For those who haven't been aware of it frequently mistake it for a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. It is true that she was there for a brief duration. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. However, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she was able to have. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." When I surpassed the size of my male companion then I slowed down. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in a school production. After trying out, she ended up as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. Through the years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across both small and large screens, attracting the greatest media attention after she was offered the part of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during Season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
